Frequently Asked Questions
Answers Before You Cruise !
❓ What happens if the weather is bad?
We will cancel a tour due to heavy rain, lightning, unsafe weather, etc. We’re prone to isolated storms that may only last about 30 minutes. It can be raining across the street while sunny where we cruise, so if the water looks rough from your location, it may not reflect the actual conditions on the water.
There’s a chance of rain nearly every day of the year, and forecasts are often inaccurate—so we encourage you not to let the weather forecast dictate your plans. In summer, brief rain showers can pop up during cruises, and we do our best to keep guests comfortable until they pass.
We’ll contact you on the day of your tour if radar shows unsafe conditions.
❓ Is this the right tour company for me?
We’d like to think so! But we know we’re not the perfect fit for everyone. Our tours are:
Educational and operated by certified guides and biologists.
Run at a leisurely pace (around 15 mph). We stop a lot for wildlife.
Respectful of wildlife. If you want a circus show, we are not a good match. But the wildlife often puts on a show at their free will!
We’re a great match for nature lovers, birders, and guests who appreciate the unpredictability of nature.
❓ What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice receive no refund or rescheduling.
No-shows or same-day cancellations receive no refund or rescheduling.
No refunds or rescheduling if you miss the boat for any reason.
❓ What should we bring for our cruise?
Feel free to bring snacks and beverages (yes, adult beverages are allowed).
Don’t forget sunblock—no spray or aerosol sunscreen, please.
If your tour includes shelling, dress for the beach and bring a bag or bucket for your shells.
❓ Is there a bathroom on board?
Yes! Just ask the crew if you need to access it. The boat also offers plenty of shade and comfortable seating.
❓ Do we need to make reservations?
Yes, please! Everything runs more smoothly when you have a reservation. Feel free to stop by, but we may not have a tour available without notice.
❓ How soon should we make reservations?
It’s never too early—but here are some guidelines:
Coastal Sealife, Dolphin & Shelling Cruise:
February–May: at least 1 week in advance
Rest of year: at least 3 days in advance
Afternoon Dolphin Cruise:
At least 2 days in advance
Sunset Cruise:
February–May: at least 4 days in advance
Rest of year: at least 2 days in advance
Private Charters:
November–May: at least 1 month in advance
Rest of year: at least 2 weeks in advance
These are only suggestions and not guarantees. Feel free to call last minute—we may still have availability. Making a reservation also helps us meet our 6-person minimum during slower months (August through February).
❓ What kind of boat is it?
We cruise on a stable 34’ power catamaran named Aventura—custom built for touring in 2024. She comfortably seats 28, with a Coast Guard allowance of 34 passengers.
Aventura features:
Bimini top for shade
Bathroom on board
Bench and bar seating
Twin 200HP outboards with jack plates for shallow water touring
Dolphins often swim over to say hello!
❓ Is the boat handicap accessible?
Yes! The gate opening is 31″ wide and accommodates a standard wheelchair. On shelling cruises, there are two steps to get off the boat onto the island (though you’re welcome to stay onboard with the captain if you prefer).
