Estero Bay celebrates its 50th year anniversary

published on December 12, 2016

Our beautiful backyard, Estero Bay is celebrating the big 5-0!

Estero Bay was established in 1966 as Florida’s first aquatic preserve. In the 1960s, local fishermen noticed that the local fish population was in decline. To preserve their livelihood, a local group formed to petition to have 10 miles of Estero Bay’s shoreline protected from development and destruction.  Turning this area into a preserve not only provided protection for the area’s water quality, but also kept the local inlets and islands intact for the large number of migratory birds who feed and nest in the areas surrounding Fort Myers Beach. We have so much gratitude for the local citizens in this area that with incredible perseverance, dedication, and hard work were able to get the area preserved.

In our lives, the Estero Bay preserve has provided us the ability to showcase this beautiful and flourishing corner of Southwest Florida to thousands of visitors and locals. The preserve has provided wonderful fishing and recreational boating opportunities and we couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate five decades of Fort Myers Beach’s natural beauty and fun.

To celebrate, we partnered with Estero Bay Buddies to present Brews on the Bay on Saturday, November 19, 2016.  We donated a three-hour sunset brews cruise to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Estero Bay.

We soaked up Southwest Florida’s natural beauty while savoring the flavor of locally made brew from Point Ybel Brewery. The fundraiser was a huge success and sold out, raising over $1100 to benefit the Estero Bay Buddies, a non-profit Citizen Support Organization that supports the protection, conservation, restoration, management and the enhancement of the Estero Bay.

Happy Birthday Estero Bay!
