The mornings have been perfect conditions for Stand Up Paddleboarding. I took out some local ladies paddleboarding yesterday and we saw dolphins and a mother manatee with her calf. If anyone needs a birthday idea we had a local lady book a charter with us as a surprise birthday party for her husband’s 60th bday. She even made cool t-shirts for everyone on the charter! I attached a pic of the birthday boy and a couple of his friends sporting the fun t-shirts.

Fishing has been so good and the redfish bite is ON!! Capt Mike has been bringing in some really happy fishermen and women with their catch. Besides redfish, I have also seen snapper, shark, and sheepshead on the cleaning table.

I performed a wedding ceremony a couple weekends ago and the wedding went off without a hitch. The weather was amazing, the water was calm, and the happy couple exchanged some amazing vows. A couple weeks ago, I was chatting with Capt Mike about his fishing charters Fort Myers Beach and he used the name “Combat Fishing” to describe them. This is the first I have heard him use this name so I was really curious what he meant. He continues to describe his charters as hooks flying, fish flying everywhere, releasing fish, baiting hooks with shrimp hanging out of his mouth at the ready, grabbing the net, snapping photos, and trying to keep everyone’s lines wet. If you know Mike he can be quite animated when he talks and the Italian in him talks with his hands, so he can be quite entertaining to watch and listen to. As he is telling me about his recent charters, I’m looking at him and I realize he is not exaggerating, as he is covered in fish guts on his shirt, scales stuck at random locations on his face, cuts on his hands, and there is a small remora fish stuck to the back of his leg. Our fishing charters have been booked up this entire month and overall it has been great. This past week of fishing has been a little tough with all the rain and river water in the area but we are still getting spotted sea trout, small shark, and red fish. Can you do a headstand? I can’t either. But recently we have met a lot of folks that can…on a paddleboard! If you don’t know what that is, it is basically a board that floats. Now I have been practicing yoga my entire life and apply it to lots of everyday situations that I encounter. But the headstand has always been difficult for me, now crow, full wheel, wild thing etc., no problem, even on a paddleboard. Oh well, I guess that gives me yet another goal. I attached a pic of one young man who was out on a recent tour with me and had never been on a paddleboard before. He did a headstand as if it was no big deal. Now don’t worry folks, we don’t make you do headstands on our tours, we just think it is really cool if you can! Capt Mike has been busy with fishing as usual. I attached a photo of a long time regular, Mrs Turken, with a beautiful red fish that she caught in Estero Bay Fort Myers Beach. The dolphins and manatees have been regular encounters on all our tours this summer around Fort Myers Beach! We never tire of seeing the wildlife here. We are so lucky to be in such a beautiful area!

What a busy and fun season so far! A little cooler than what we are accustomed to but the wildlife has still been very active! Capt Mike has been reporting a great bite in the bay around the mangrove islands and also in the passes. He has had a lot of return customers from last year and also made some new return customers for next year. Our other Captains have been observing lots of bird nesting activity and the pelicans are showing off their nesting plumage now too! If you havent seen a baby pelican before you are missing one cute chic with a face only a mother could love! Cristina has also had the opportunity to volunteer with the Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve bird monitors and their studies. Check it out here and see what the purpose of the study is Bird Rookery Studies We have been finding lots of cool sealife on our morning cruise and seeing many dolphins too! We have also been spotting manatees nearly everyday. Outside of our tours, some of crew members have been busy with their new furry animal friends. Capt Gale adopted a small chihuahua named Vanna, Marlowe our Everglades guide adopted a feline named Rufus, and Cristina and Mike adopted a Bulldog named Daisy. All shelter animals and they are doing great! Gosh we sure love animals! Well I could go on all day about what all we have been up to but you all just need to join us for a fun excursion and see for yourselves! Hope to see y’all soon!

It’s reaching 83 degrees here at Fort Myers Beach today folks. 83 degrees and it is January! You don’t hear me complaining, and all of our visitors are loving it too! We have been having a great new year so far!Lots of fun dolphin activity, the osprey are nesting, and the shelling has been terrific! Capt Mike has been reporting a great catch on his fishing charters and we have been getting great feedback from a lot of happy passengers. We had a recent successful bird rescue also, and fortunately we were around to assist. If you have been out with me you know that I love the Magnificent Frigate and I always point them out and talk about how awesome I think they are and how big they are. But when they are soaring up high they don’t look as big as I am describing. Well, this one morning while out on a tour we spotted a Frigate struggling in the water, they do not swim and can drown, so I waded over to it to help it out.  He must have swooped in for a fish snack and misjudged and landed to far into the water. As I scooped him up carefully to protect myself, the bird collapsed in my arms, as they usually do. I am not sure if they just give up on life thinking they have been captured, if it is just exhaustion, if I am always so calm when rescuing wildlife that I have a calming effect, or probably a combination of all that. As we have done in the past, I put him on the bow of the boat to let him rest and dry out his wings. After a few minutes he flew away as if nothing happened. My passengers and I were thrilled to see this! Fortunately, one of my passengers that morning took pics of this event and they show the wing span of these cool birds. This bird was about as big as me!  Thank you Emily for sending me the photos! We won Best Illuminated award in the Bonita Springs holiday boat parade! What fun we all had during the parade and we even had dolphins swim alongside us after the parade on the way back to Snook bight Marina. What a beautiful night it was. Watched the beautiful sunset on the way to the parade line up and had great boating weather. The holiday boat parade is a special event for us.
